My back problems first
started in 1987. I had reached over to pick up a bag of trash and
could not move. It seemed like forever. The pain was so bad
that I could not walk, sit or sleep. I finally went to see a
neurosurgeon. After a few weeks of pills and no relief, he suggested
surgery. I let him. This did not eliminate the problem.
Over the last 17 years I have seen four or five different doctors. I
still have the pain. My walking is still bad and sleeping is very
painful.
My PCP (Primary Care
Physician) has given me several different kinds of medicine for the pain.
Muscle relaxers and anti-inflammatory drugs. After several years of
this I realized that these medicines were destroying my stomach. So
I stopped taking them. That part of my health go much better.
In March 2004, I went to
see a Chiropractor that my friend had recommended. My reason for
going to him was that in Oct. 2003, I had developed some problems with my
neck. I could not move my head from side to side. My PCP had
done a C Scan on my neck. And of course, wanted me to go to another
neurosurgeon I just could not do that. I took a copy of this report
to the Chiropractor. He started giving me adjustments and never did
any X-Rays of his own. After approximately six visits I had a
feeling inside me that he was not the doctor for me. There had not
been very much improvement. So I stopped going. But I still
was hearing from others that Chiropractic Care was the way to go.
Soon the problem with my neck got really bad again. And I didn't
know what to do. I went to the web site for BCBS insurance to see
the list of doctors that were on my plan. When I saw Dr. Debra
Porter's name I just knew that I wanted to visit her office.
I have a sister that has
had two surgeries on her neck and one on her lower back. The only
way she can get around now is with the help of a walker or a wheelchair.
I do not want this. On the other hand I have a younger sister that
had a very serious fall at work in Feb. 2003. After she had gone to
several doctors she was told that the only thing they could see was some
degenerative disc and that was just because of getting older. She
was in a lot of pain and could hardly walk. They also gave her the
pills for pain. A friend of hers told her about a Chiropractor and
told her that she should at least give it a try. She is now walking
two miles everyday, has lost weight and will tell anyone that Chiropractic
Care saved her life. This I wanted for myself.
I have only been to Dr.
Debra four times but I knew from the start that she really wanted to help
me. On my first visit she sat with me and explained to me in detail
what Chiropractic Care could do for me. On my second visit she took
X-Rays of my neck and back; she took a complete background of my health.
She knows every problem I have ever had. After the second visit I
was able to turn my head from side to side. With each visit it gets
better. I know that it will take a little longer for my lower back
problem because it has been around so long.
There is no doubt in my
mind that there are a lot of people in pain that would benefit from
Chiropractic Care and my goal is to tell as many as I can. We don't
have to suffer anymore.
