I am writing this to thank
you for making my life better that it has been in a long time. I
have battled chronic pain for the last 21 years of my life and I am only
36.
At 15 I started
experiencing Myofacial Pain Headaches (10-14 headaches every day).
Seven years ago I was diagnosed with Graves Disease (a thyroid disorder)
which at times would keep me bedridden because I was so exhausted.
Approximately 4 years ago I started having trouble with my muscles -
standing for long periods of time, brushing my teeth, basically doing
anything that people do on a daily basis. I went through test after
test and doctor upon doctor trying to find an explanation for this.
No one could figure anything out other then to tell me "you are a very
sick young lady". Not something you want to hear in your 30's.
Then at 35, I went into acute renal failure. I was within 48 hours
of dying when I had emergency surgery.
I have had numerous
surgeries including gallbladder surgery, hysterectomy, tonsillectomy, a
kidney sting and lithotripsy, muscle biopsy as well as radiation treatment
for my thyroid.
I haven's had much of a
life for years because of all these illnesses I have incurred through the
years. I have seen at least 70 doctors in 21 years, 21 for the
headaches alone. Then one day I was in the mall and decided to check
out Dr. Porter's exhibit. I had been to at least six other
chiropractors in the past 21 years so I didn't hold out much hope.
When you live in pain as long as I have after awhile you learn not to
expect anything. I am happy to say that Dr. Porter is different than
any other doctor that has ever treated me. Dr. Porter has taught me
so much about my body and what chiropractic treatment can do for a body
especially one as bad off as mine. Within the first week I started
to notice some energy and that the pain was starting to elevate little by
little. Then what really showed me how much she has helped me and my
body is when I had to take a whole week off from my office visits with
her. My pain was back full-force and the muscle spasms were
unbearable that I spent almost the whole week in bed. I have been a
patient of Dr. Porter's for approximately 6 months now and Dr. Porter is
the only doctor who I constantly see now. I have my other
specialists but I see them every 3-4 months now for check-ups instead of
every month for work-ups.
Dr. Porter has given me
hope that so many of the others couldn't even come close to giving me.
For someone who last year couldn't even walk 100 feet without having pain
in my legs and not to mention being on my deathbed, to this year be able
to go to the gym at least 2-3 times a week and walk a mile on the
treadmill and swim laps. I am even considering going back to
university next year which I never thought I'd be well enough to do and
working toward walking the Peachtree Race in July 2005 (a six mile walk).
I believe that Dr. Porter and her chiropractic work are responsible for
giving me a chance at life again. For that I am more grateful than
anyone will ever know. I highly recommend that anyone who hasn't
found help in the traditional methods of doctors try chiropractic care -
my life is so much better because I tried it!!
I don't believe in
coincidences - I know Dr. Porter was sent to help me and for that I will
always be grateful! Dr. Porter is so wonderful and I am so
glad she is part of my healthcare family!
